I saw a wonderful movie recently, “Cumbia Callera”. You should try to see it. It’s from Mexico, and is in Spanish, but there is so little dialogue that it doesn’t matter whether you speak Spanish or not, you’ll get it all. It tells the story of a ...

I was going to just add a comment to Richard's post about his first vinyl release, but could not find a way to do it directly. So I'm making up this discussion. I've talked before here about the sound of vinyl records and how much I prefer it to ...

The other thing I would note is that the anniversary of the storm is also dear little Michael Jackson's birthday, so soon after his death. !2,000 people showed up to moonwalk together in tribute. Don't they have a sense of what life is about.

Deborah is right, the things I talk about regarding the storm are going to eventually become universal if we don't rework our world. What happened here was expected for a long time because of coastal erosion. I knew that it would happen. I was jus...

I mean, there's a lot of expose, a lot of media being released to us on little things, details --- but look at what you're seeing and experienceing in the context, not of Katrina vs what came before, politics and attempts at restoration, but of mi...

Tomorrow those of us who live down here will be having an anniversary, thinking about it or avoiding thinking about it or whatever. It's been four years since the storm. Half of our public school buildings are still destroyed, untouched in four ye...

Inspiration - It's about damn time!

Since becoming unemployed I have been in a downward spiral of depression. I live in the basement of an old GI house with the tiniest windows and I've holed myself up down here (wow weird choice of words there) and I have rarely removed myself from my own personal dungeon. My best friend, Glady forced me to go to Ocean City a couple weeks ago and that was my first push towards opening back up. I felt like a new person. I actually caught myself smiling in the back seat watching the sunset.

Same Kind of Different as Me

My mother came to visit me for my birthday this year and bought me a gift card for Books-A-Million in Dupont Circle. On Memorial Day, I happened to have the day off and wandered into the bookstore looking to use the card. It's rare that I have a day off so I figured I would use it when I could. Wandering through the aisles I picked up a book about the Sistine Chap… Continue

I'm currently reading a couple of books and thought I'd share a couple excerpts that caught my eye.

Arlette had the good sense not to pry into the woman's life, and each morning they continued to walk to the square to feed the cats and birds. Madame Perruche never talked about her past, but there were telltale signs in her behavior that convinced Arlette that the woman had come from a good family. She took note of how the woman set the table and folded the bottom corners of a bedsheet; and how… Continue
